Chinese police launch manhunt after man abandons newborn baby in plastic box outside orphanage
The baby, who had a low level of oxygen, is in an incubator at the Hui'an County Hospital.
Police in China are looking for a man who abandoned a sick baby outside an orphanage yesterday (9 November).
The man was caught on CCTV cameras, carrying the baby from his car in a plastic box. According to Pear Video, he left the box outside the orphanage in Quanzhou, south-east China's Fujian Province, before running to his car and quickly fleeing the scene.
The baby who was found in the box, along with some clothing, toys and 1,0A 00 yuan cash (£114, was taken to the Hui'an County Hospital. No proof of identity was found, Mail Online reports.
Li Xueqiong, the head nurse of the department of paediatrics, said the boy has been placed in an incubator as he suffered from a low level of blood oxygen, which could lead to complications in body tissue and organs.
The nurse also suspected that the baby had been given intravenous therapy and had blood samples taken before being abandoned.
The local police are investigating the case. They have asked anyone who recognises the man and his car to contact them.
