Chris Brown daughter: Singer criticises mother Nia Guzman for using Royalty as 'meal ticket'
Relations appear to be strained between singer Chris Brown and Nia Guzman, the mother of his child, whom he appears to claim is using their daughter Royalty as a "meal ticket". In a Twitter post on Friday (7 August 2015), the Ayo singer stated that he has fully embraced becoming a father for the first time, while suggesting that Guzman does not have good intentions when it comes to the welfare of the one year old girl.
Brown tweeted: "Some men my age run from their responsibility as fathers. I embrace mine. Just sucks that some females use children as meal tickets." He added in a separate tweet: "Using a child as leverage is never OK. The highest praise to the men who actually want their kids." It is not exactly known what sparked the comments, and he did not directly name Guzman. However, reports of a custody battle between the parents have mounted.
In July, TMZ reported that the 26-year-old singer had filed legal documents against Guzman following her alleged demands for Brown to increase his child-support payments. The website reports that he has been paying $2,500 (£1,618) a month for Guzman to provide for Royalty, but she is said to have requested $15,000 instead.
The Loyal singer reportedly claims that Guzman has been denying him the right to see their child, so he would like a judge to state a definitive amount of child support and set regular days that he can spend with her. The R&B hitmaker regularly gushes over Royalty on Instagram, where he has described her as "the best thing in [his] life" and used the hashtag "QUEENROYALTY".
It has been suggested several times in the past that Brown would like to move Guzman and Royalty from Houston to Los Angeles, where the musician is based, so that he can spend more time with his daughter. However, a source told Hollywood Life that he worries his child's mother is fame-hungry and would try to use the attention in LA to her advantage.
The insider claimed: "Nia's becoming a headache, and if she moved [to Los Angeles] permanently, he fears that she'd be just like [Brown's ex-girlfriend, model] Karrueche [Tran]. She'd be going to all the clubs he goes to. She'd be out in the streets running her mouth to the paparazzi bashing him. She'd think she's a star just because she's his baby's mother. No thank you."
