Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Pantech Vega Racer 2: Can the Pantech Smartphone be a Real Challenger for the New Galaxy?
Will the Pantech Vega Racer 2 be a tough competitor for Galaxy S3?
Pantech Vega Racer 2 released in May in South Korea comes with a gigantic 4.8in display. The smartphone is expected to have an edge over the newest Samsung Galaxy S3 because of its powerful specs. It features voice recognition capability that lets you use your voice in several tasks like compose message, browse internet and even in taking pictures.
Samsung's newest Galaxy S3 touts special features like Smart Stay, Smart Alert, Direct Call, Social Tag and S Voice. The device is powered by an Exynos 4 quad-core processor. It was one of the most spoken about gadgets since it was announced and has continued to make waves since its market release.
Let us check out how the two smartphones stack up:
Dimension
Pantech's Vega Racer 2 measures 132.4 x 68.9 x 9.4mm and weighs 134.1g, while the Galaxy S3 has a dimension of 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6mm and weighs 133g.
Display
The Vega Racer 2 comes with a 4.8in Super IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 at 314 pixel per inch (ppi). It comes with a Touchless UX User Interface (UI).
In comparison, the Galaxy S3 features a 4.8in Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels at 306 ppi. It is covered with Corning Gorilla glass 2 and TouchWiz 4.0 UI.
Processor
The Vega Racer 2 is powered by the Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon chipset with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor.
In contrast, the Galaxy S3 is powered by the quad-core Exynos 4212 processor, which was clocked at 1.4GHz. However, both smartphones ship 1GB of RAM.
Camera
Both smartphones boast an eight megapixel rear-facing camera with auto-focus and LED flash. In addition, both smartphones allow users to record video of 1080p at 30 frames per second (fps).
The Vega Racer 2 sports geo-tagging, face detection and image stabilisation. It comes with a two megapixel front-facing camera.
The Galaxy S3, on the other hand features geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection, image stabilisation and simultaneous HD video and image recording. It comes with a secondary camera of 1.9 megapixel.
Operating System
The Vega Racer 2 runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS), whereas the Galaxy S3 runs on Android 4.0.4 ICS.
Storage
The Vega Racer 2 includes onboard storage of 16GB and a microSD card slot with an additional memory space of 32GB.
In comparison, the Galaxy S3 comes in three internal storage variants 16/32/64GB (the 64GB model is expected to be available at a later date). It has a microSD card slot with an additional memory space of 64GB.
Connectivity
Both smartphones offer Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct and Wi-Fi hotspot. The Vega Racer 2 offers support to Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP, while the Galaxy S3 comes with Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP and EDR.
Battery
The Vega Racer 2 packs a whopping Li-Ion 2020mAh standard battery, while the Galaxy S3 contains Li-Ion 2100mAh battery.
