Lethal Bizzle and Fatman Scoop to provide musical 'entertainment' for David Haye boxing match
Lethal Bizzle will pack a punch at Haye Day by headlining the showdown between David Haye and Arnold 'The Cobra' Gjergjaj. Grime and boxing fans will unite and put up a fight for the remaining tickets of the event, taking place on 21 May at The O2 and aired exclusively on Dave in the UK.
Former two-weight world champion Haye, 35, takes on the undefeated Gjergjaj in his second fight since coming out of retirement, after beating Mark de Mori in January. Victory inside one round was the Hayemaker's eighth first-round KO of his career and the 25th knockout in his 27 professional wins, with the fight lasting just 121 seconds.
Lethal Bizzle, famed for his hit single POW! and affiliation with the UK grime scene, will kick off the night in an upbeat manner as other performers throughout the event include Fatman Scoop and KISS FM stars Rickie and Melvin.
Giving his approval of the choice of performers, Haye said of the event's music: "Haye Day is about a complete night of entertainment. I want the crowd on their feet with performances to match the fireworks taking place in the ring.
He added: "It's great to have Lethal Bizzle on board for the night and I'm sure he will get The O2 rocking before I make my entrance!" Digital Spy reports.
Haye also gave a nod to US rapper Fatman Scoop, who is no stranger with British audiences having starred on the UK version of Celebrity Big Brother. He continued: "I'd like to thank Fatman Scoop for making the trip over from America to perform, he's guaranteed to get the crowd pumped!
"Rickie and Melvin smashed it at my comeback show so I'm so pleased they are joining us again! Haye Day II is going to be even bigger and better – get set for knockout entertainment both in and out of the ring!"
Haye, at 6'3, may be feeling the pressure as his slightly younger counterpart, 31-year-old Kosovo-Albanian Gjergjaj, stands at 6'5 and has an eye-watering record of 29-0 – 21 of those wins coming via knockouts. His height, strength and weight at 112 kilograms are no laughing matter, so the crowd and musicians' support will have to help Haye reach his full potential.
The boxing champ has become a reality TV star in recent years, partaking in the twelfth series of I'm a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! where he finished in third place. Haye also became vegan in early 2014 and launched his own range of vegan protein.
He told Peta: "I watched a TV documentary about how animals are farmed, killed and prepared for us to eat. I saw all those cows and pigs and realised I couldn't be a part of it any more. It was horrible.
"I did some research to make sure I could still obtain enough protein to fight and, once satisfied that I could, I stopped. I'll never go back," he added.
