First British Prosecution for Use of Illegal Dog Collar
A man from Wales became the first to be prosecuted in Britain for use of an illegal dog collar.
Phillip Pook, 48, from Ogmore-by-Sea has been fined £2000 for using an electric shock collar to stop his border collie jumping over a wall, the BBC reports.
Wales banned the collars last year but Mr Pook denied that he had been warned the device was illegal.
The collar emitted an electric shock every time the dog went near a specific fence, designed to prevent the collie from jumping over a wall surrounding Mr Pook's property.
The local kennels were aware of the collar being used, referring to the dog, which kept escaping, as "the dog with the shock collar."
Mr Pook's dog was found wearing the collar while roaming a nearby beach in December 2010.
