Why Did Don Cornelius Commit Suicide?

As a remembrance for the Soul Train creator is set to take place on February 17, one can't help wonder why Don Cornelius killed himself. Don shot himself on February 1, due to reasons yet not known.

His son, Tony Cornelius, who worked with him for 15 years and also a close friend, suggests it could be Don's deteriorating health. " The factor that I would say, as his son, that really hurt him would be his health. My father had an aneurysm 15 or 20 years ago. When you're struck with that kind of problem, it affects other parts of your body. He could get around well [but] he was frustrated by his health," Tony was quoted as saying by The Hollywood Reporter.

Don had recently sold his Soul Train franchise to Inter Media. But one cannot speculate he was worried about that as the new company is running it extremely well. Moreover, Don seemed to be happy with it. Cornelius had launched Soul Train in 1970 with 400 dollars taken from his own pocket. Don was divorced from his wife, Russian model, Victoria Chapman in 2009.

It could be speculated that the reasons for Don Cornelius' suicide could be a mix of problems in health, marriage and relationships.

Tony hopes to create a foundation in his father's name to help others. "There are quite a few kids that are committing suicide.Many times out of tragedy comes help," he was quoted as saying.
