On one clip shared on social media, you could even hear someone yell "don't look!" as Trump gesticulates and looks up, with eyes uncovered, at the celestial event occuring above him.

Trump later reemerged on the White House balcony flanked by his wife, Melania, both wearing the special glasses needed to safely watch the eclipse.

To no one's surprise, Twitter users had a field day with the pictures. "I want someone to look at me the way Trump looks at the eclipse," one user joked. Another tweeted that Trump must have taken scientific recommendations as, in Trump's all-too-often-uttered phrase, "fake news".

User Mohamed Hazine shared a clip that showed it wasn't just the president pushing the limits of optical health but the First Lady also took off her protective glasses at one point and glanced sheepishly at the once-in-a-lifetime event taking place overhead.
