Eiffel Tower in Paris shows off a few football tricks in latest Google doodle marking Euro 2016
Google has marked the start of the Euro 2016 with two animations, with both involving the football of course. The animations, when clicked on, feature the scores and schedule for the next four weeks.
The Euro 2016 tournament kicks off on Friday, 10 June, with France taking on Romania at 8pm UK time. On Saturday 11 June, three matches will be played. Albania will take on Switzerland at 2pm while Wales and Slovakia will fight it out at 5pm, On Saturday night, England are scheduled to start their campaign with a first match against Russia at 8pm.
The championship tournament will see 24 teams vying for the coveted trophy, up from the 16-team format used previously. Under the new format, teams will fight in six groups of four teams, followed by a knockout stage.
This is the third time France is playing host to the championship. It hosted the tournament in 1960 and in 1984.
In Google's doodle, the Eiffel Tower shows off its skills with the football, as it kicks the ball around. In the second animation, a rooster emerges on a rooftop followed by a lovely bright sun. The rooster then crows and heads off a ball.
In both animations the flags of the all 24 countries playing in the championships are featured.
