England cricket players yet to receive daily allowances from the Indian cricket board

The England cricket team players have not received daily allowances from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as the two boards are yet to sign the Memorandum of Understanding.

The MoU is a standard agreement that details various aspects of the bilateral series. The home team is expected to take care of tour expenses. Although, the Supreme Court of India sanctioned around Rs58 lakhs (Rs5.8mn) per match for the organisation of the first three tests, the amount does not include players' daily expenditure.

The delay in agreement has only affected the visiting players. Both, the match officials as well as Indian players have received their daily allowances. Each England player is entitled to £50 per day, which comes up to Rs4200 as per the current exchange rate.

"Yes England team is yet to receive any allowances from the BCCI. The players and support staff are mainly doing transaction through credit card and there was some limited cash (Indian currency) that was provided to them by the manager. I would not say there are major financial difficulties but there is an inconvenience of the limited cash available", a source said to the Indian Express.

BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke had recently written to the English Cricket Board on their inability to execute the MoU due to restrictions of contracts imposed by the Supreme Court. The Indian board is apparently awaiting directions from the Lodha Committee, which has been appointed to oversee all financial transactions of the BCCI.

The Lodha Committee Panel, though, refuted the claims put by the BCCI, clarifying that giving directions on the MoU between two cricketing boards was not the mandate of the committee.
