Somerset duo Craig Kieswetter and Jos Buttler were the stars of the show as England breezed past South Africa with a 28-run victory to draw the Twentry20 series 1-1.

Kieswetter did the early damage as he smashed 50 from just 32 deliveries, before Buttler grabbed the limelight with an incredible 32 off 10 balls as England made 118-5 in their 11 overs at Edgbaston.

The match was shortened due to rain but there was still plenty to celebrate for England fans who saw a single over from fast bowler Wayne Parnell go for 32 runs.

South Africa never looked like getting close to the target set by England as they consistently los wickets and were only able to make 90-5.

Stuart Broad's side now head to Sri Lanka, to defend their World Cup crown, as the number one Twenty20 side in the world after climbing above South Africa.

The side will certainly be in a confident mood after a destructive innings with the bat and a disciplined display from all of the bowlers.

It was a young England side which lined up at the start of play with Danny Briggs handed his debut, while few players remained from the side which won the Twenty20 World Cup two years ago.

When Buttler joined his Somerset team-mate at the crease, England were 64-3 and had just 16 balls remaining in the innings. However, the massive hitting from both players made sure that the home side had the advantage.

The 32 runs from the Parnell over included two no-balls, two three sixes, two scooped fours and a pair of twos to make it the second most expensive over in Twenty 20 cricket, behind Yuvraj Singh's six sixes off Broad back in 2007.

Kieswetter and Jonny Bairstow both fell to Morne Morkel in the final over, but England's score was always going to be difficult to chase down.

In Hashim Alma, South Africa had the form batsman in world cricket and were always in with a chance while he was at the crease.

Amla was the top scorer with 36 from 27 balls, but when he fell to Graeme Swann, it was always going to be difficult.

Richard Levi, Faf du Plessis and AB de Villiers all went for single figure sand when Amla departed it left South Africa needing 65 runs from the final 24 deliveries.

Albie Morkel and Justin Ontong did manage to clear the boundary but South Africa fell well short of their target.

Swann and Tim Bresnan both picked up two wickets, with debutant Briggs claimed one and Jade Dernbach conceded just 14 from his two over spell.

England now fly to Sri Lanka on Thursday where they will play two warm-up matches against Pakistan and Australia before their first group game against Afghanistan on 21 September.
