Overview

England will be high on confidence after a massive victory over the World Cup finalists in the opening match in Birmingham. Brendon McCullum won the toss and elected to field first and New Zealand got a first breakthrough from the first delivery of the match.

Jason Roy was dismissed for a duck and it was Joe Root's 104 off 108 balls, followed by skipper Eoin Morgan's 50 that helped England stabilise their innings.

Down the order, Jos Buttler's quick 129, along with Adil Rashid's 69 helped the hosts post a mammoth total of 408 runs. It is for the first time England have posted a total above 400 runs in ODIs.

In reply, the Black Caps lost wickets at regular intervals as Steven Finn and Rashid picked up four wickets each. New Zealand were bowled out for 198 as England sealed a 210-run victory.

England have a 1-0 lead in the five-match ODI series and the visitors will be looking to level the score by winning the second match in London.
