Facebook Messenger debuts on Apple Watch
Facebook Messenger is finally available for the Apple Watch. The messaging app was showcased during Apple's keynote in September and is now available through an updated Facebook Messenger for iOS.
Just like its version on iPhone, Facebook Messenger for Apple Watch allows you to send and receive voice clips, likes and stickers. You can also share your current location in Messenger messages right from your Apple Watch. The app, however, does not provide an option to send text messages due to the tiny screen of the Apple Watch.
You can experience Facebook Messenger on your Apple Watch as long as it runs on watchOS 2, which the company released in September as the new version over the original watchOS. The new operating system has features such as Native Apps support and hardware access through APIs that all help developers build apps like Facebook Messenger. Moreover, there are tweaks like nightstand mode and third-party watch face integration to offer an upgraded smartwatch experience.
Updated Facebook Messenger for iOS
Apart from its debut on Apple Watch, Facebook Messenger for iOS has been updated to deliver a couple of new features. The updated app (version 38.0) allows you to find Messenger contacts and conversations from your iPhone search screen using the updated and improved Spotlight search function on iOS 9. Besides, there is an option to access Facebook Messenger directly from the list of multitasking apps on your iPad.
You can download the updated Facebook Messenger for iOS by visiting the Apple App Store. The updated app is 79.5MB in size and is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch running on iOS 7.0 or above. However, the new features on iPhone and iPad are available only through iOS 9.
