Teacher Gets 12-Year Prison Sentence for Raping 15-Year-Old Student After Months-Long 'Nightmare' Relationship

A former New Jersey special education teacher broke down in tears after being sentenced to 12 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old student. She was described as being 'obsessed' with the boy, bringing a traumatic case involving a teacher and her teenage pupil to a dramatic close.

Allison Havemann-Niedrach, 45, was sentenced on Friday after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting the boy over a six-month period in 2024, when he was in eighth grade. She was a teacher at Freehold Intermediate School at the time.

The victim, who has not been publicly identified, delivered an emotional statement before State Superior Court Judge Jill G. O'Malley handed down the sentence.

He described his relationship with Havemann-Niedrach as 'like a nightmare' and said he would not want anyone else to experience what he went through.

'For two or three years, I thought it was my fault,' he told the court.

The teenager then said he forgave the former teacher for what she had done. The statement prompted Havemann-Niedrach to burst into tears.

'I forgive her for what she did,' the victim said.

Havemann-Niedrach, a mother of two, also addressed the court and apologised for her actions.

'I apologize profusely for my actions,' she said. 'I am moved by his forgiveness.'

Investigation Began After School Concerns

Authorities began investigating Havemann-Niedrach after the school's vice principal raised concerns about her relationship with the student.

Prosecutors said another teacher had allegedly seen Havemann-Niedrach rubbing the boy's neck and back, touching his leg and flirting with him. The incidents raised concerns about the nature of their relationship.

The boy's mother also became suspicious after his sister reportedly saw him sitting inside Havemann-Niedrach's car. She also noticed that her son was using his phone late into the night.

Investigators later learned the extent of the contact between the teacher and student. Havemann-Niedrach reportedly sent the teenager around 25,000 messages during their relationship.

The boy had allegedly told friends that he was dating his teacher. However, he eventually admitted to police that he had engaged in sexual activity with her after his mother took him to a police station.

Prosecutors described Havemann-Niedrach as being 'obsessed' with the teenager.

Judge Delivers Blunt Rebuke

Judge O'Malley delivered a particularly strong rebuke before sentencing Havemann-Niedrach to prison.

'You are his trauma. You ruined him,' the judge said, raising her voice.

O'Malley also said the abuse had caused the teenager to consider taking his own life before he eventually disclosed the relationship to his mother.

Under the terms of her plea agreement, Havemann-Niedrach must serve at least 85% of her 12-year sentence before becoming eligible for release.

The former teacher will also be required to register as a sex offender. Her teaching certifications have been revoked, effectively ending her career in education.

Judge O'Malley further ordered Havemann-Niedrach to have no contact with the victim or his family.

The teenager's decision to forgive his former teacher nevertheless became a defining moment of the sentencing hearing. While Havemann-Niedrach expressed remorse, the judge's comments underscored the lasting impact the abuse had on the victim.
