France launches anti-Isis airstrikes in Syria
French forces have carried out a round of air strikes against Islamic State (Isis) militants in Syria, the presidential office in Paris has announced. Elysee Palace said the French planes pounded the targets which were identified by a recent surveillance mission.
"Our country thus confirms its resolute commitment to fight against the terrorist threat represented by Daesh [IS]. We will strike each time that our national security is at stake," read the statement. The French forces have also coordinated with other partners in the region in the anti-IS operation. This is not the first time French jets have struck IS positions in the region.
