How to Update Galaxy Nexus I9250 to Android 4.4 KitKat via AOSP ROM [GUIDE]
AOSP ROM brings latest Android 4.4 KitKat features for Galaxy Nexus I9250
Google has officially announced that its Galaxy Nexus (GSM and Verizon) smartphones will not receive the new Android 4.4 KitKat firmware. In other words, the Galaxy Nexus phones will be restricted to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with no support for future software upgrades.
Nevertheless, there is some good news for Galaxy Nexus I9250 users as they can still install the new Android 4.4 firmware via AOSP ROM, which is built from the original Android 4.4 source or stock KitKat firmware released by Google.
As SamMobile notes, Android 4.4 is the biggest upgrade Android has ever received, with its focus on improving performance and reducing RAM usage on devices with as low as 512MB memory. The other notable features ported into this ROM include a new launcher with inbuilt Google Now (accessible via home screen), better media features (closed captioning), full screen mode for apps and more.
According to XDA Developers, the AOSP ROM is quite stable with the exception of a few isolated issues like animation and graphical glitches which will be fixed in the upcoming releases.
