Greek Police Sweep Immigrants From Streets
Greek Police swept through central Athens today rounding up illegal immigrants as part of its recent government initiative to tackle its illegal immigration problem.
The illegal immigrants will be taken to specially built holding centres, provided by the government. Which will house the hundreds of people that have flooded the capital recently and created ghetto's and slums. Once there, they would be able to apply for asylum, or be deported back to their countries.
Greece known as the gateway to Europe with its access to land and sea borders, has had a long time problem with illegal immigration. But put this problem of visible illegal immigration and the rise of far right attacks upon them, alongside the country's own worsening financial problems and hardship. Then it is perhaps prudent for the Greek government to tackle this issue head on.
