Overview
Grigor Dimitrov pulled off a big upset in the semi-finals in a match lasting nearly three hours to defeat second seed Andy Murray. The Bulgarian had never beaten the world number seven in any of the three previous meetings between the two.
The 23-year-old seemed to be heading for a fourth defeat against Murray after losing a closely contested first set, 6-4. However, Dimitrov seized control in the second set and forced a tie-breaker before eventually clinching the set, 7-6(5).
The third set too was contested in a similar manner and Dimitrov led 4-2 before the British number one drew level at 5-5. However, the fourth seed eventually sealed the decisive set 7-6(3) to deny Murray his first final since Wimbeldon last year.
In the other semi-final, Kevin Anderson overcame Alexandr Dolgopolov to set up a clash against Dimitrov.
Anderson needed three sets to overcome the Ukrainian after losing the second set, 5-7. The South African won the first and the decisive sets, 6-1 and 6-4 respectively to progress into his second final this year.
The fifth seed will be keen to put behind his disappointment from the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships where he lost to Marin Cilic in the final.

Head-to-Head
The pair have clashed four times in the past and Dimitrov holds a 3-1 lead against 27-year-old. However, Anderson's win against the Bulgarian last came on a hard surface in 2012 which may help the South African in the now converted hard turf in Acapulco.
