Halo 5: Guardians gets October release date and two live action trailers
Halo 5: Guardians will be released on 27 October, 2015 and to mark the announcement Microsoft and 343 Industries have debuted two live action trailers focusing on the game's two playable lead characters.
The two trailers echo each other, depicting similar events from the points of view of series protagonist Master Chief and Locke, the newer character first introduced in the Halo: Nightfall series and portrayed by Mike Colter.
You can watch each trailer below...
"You've completed your mission Spartan Locke, mine is just beginning," says Chief in the trailer called The Cost. "All Hail the conquering hero, the one who was supposed to save us all, but now I must save us from you," says Locke in the other, called All Hail.
In a press release Microsoft said: "The Master Chief. Spartan Locke. Who is the hunter and who is the hunted?" They then billed the clash as "one of the most epic showdowns in entertainment history". Game publishers – never ones for hyperbole.
There aren't a great deal of hints about the game's plot in the trailers beyond what we already know - that Master Chief has gone rogue to complete his own mission and that Locke has been tasked with bringing him down.
"We wanted Halo 5: Guardians to be the game that pays off the epic promise of the Halo universe in scope and scale and drama," said 343 boss Bonnie Ross. "We want to amaze players with the sheer size of the worlds and battles they'll experience, even as they question everything they thought they knew about its heroes, marvels and mysteries."
Ross also promised that Halo 5 would be appearing at E3, as expected.
