Harry Potter hoard in Mexico breaks Guinness record for world's biggest
The world's largest collection of Harry Potter memorabilia has gone on display in Mexico City's Classic Toy Museum, bringing together thousands of pieces from the private collection of a local lawyer who has been collecting Potter paraphernalia for the last 15 years.
From figurines, wands and a Lego model of Hogwarts, Menahem Asher Silva Vargas has amassed the world's largest collection of all things Harry Potter according to Guinness. The massive collection was made up of more than 3,000 pieces as of November 2013 and the search for new additions to his collection has become a way of life for Silva Vargas.
The collection spans the eight movies and seven books of the series. Over 400 million copies of the Harry Potter books have been sold world-wide, making J.K. Rowling the world's first billionaire author.
Not all of Silva Vargas' private collection is on display at Mexico City's toy museum. Many of the pieces are too fragile for display or too priceless. A first-edition book from the Harry Potter series can fetch upwards of £13,000 ($20,000) online.
Mexico City's Antique Toy Museum approached Asher Silva to display his collection with the hope of making it the base for Potter fans in the Mexican capital.
