With Hurricane Sandy expected to make landfall either today or tomorrow on the US eastern seaboard .States of emergency have been declared in Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington DC and parts of North Carolina.
The Mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg, ordered a mandatory evacuation of parts of the city, explaining that schools, transport systems and the financial district will be shut down.
Experts claim that Sandy could affect as many as 50 million people and this graphic shows it's current and projected path . More than 700 flights, including international ones, were cancelled yesterday in anticipation and nearly 2,500 more were cancelled today.
