'I don't do drugs': WWE star Paige reveals the real reason behind her suspension
Paige was suspended for 30 days and later for 60 days for violating talent wellness policy in 2016.
Former WWE Divas champion Paige finally opened up about her wellness policy suspensions on Total Divas. The 24-year-old British female wrestler and her fiancé Alberto Del Rio both were slapped a month-long ban on 18 August last year. Alberto quit the entertainment company in September the same year.
At the time, the company in a statement said Paige – real name Saraya-Jade Bevis – has been suspended "for her first violation of the company's talent wellness policy". The federation gave no reason behind the 30-day suspension.
Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that the suspension of the couple was "curious" and added that it was not known if they were banned for testing positive for the same substance or if their suspensions were related.
In October, Paige received another suspension for 60 days. "WWE has suspended Saraya-Jade Bevis (Paige) for 60 days effective immediately, for her second violation of the company's talent wellness policy," WWE had said in a statement. The company had not disclose the reason behind the suspension.
Paige now has revealed that her suspension has nothing to do "drugs". She broke down on the latest episode of Total Divas when she found out about her suspension.
"WWE posted a statement about me failing the wellness policy," Paige said, "We get drug tested all the time...first of all, I don't do drugs."
She explained that she was suspended not for testing positive, but for not taking the test in the "allotted time that they gave me".
Paige, who comes from a wrestling family, has been with the WWE since joining their developmental programme in 2011. She made her main roster debut in 2014 and has won the WWE Divas Championship twice.
Paige recently made headlines after hackers leaked her nude photos and alleged sex tape. After her explicit photos made it way to the internet, Paige revealed that her images were stolen.
"Personal and private photos of mine were stolen and unfortunately they were shared publicly without my consent," she said on Twitter.
She also wrote on Twitter that she thought about harming herself after her nude photos were leaked. She said she was taken advantage of by people who she trusted when she was a young girl.
She said she wanted to harm herself because "my family and my husband [fiance Del Rio] were suffering the same fate from the internet because of my mistake".
"The one thing that was the hardest was thinking 'my husbands gonna leave me', 'my family will disown me', but I'm blessed beyond words to have a family and a husband that stuck by me because they know who I am," she said.
