IFA 2013: Samsung Unveils New Galaxy Note 10.1 in Berlin

Samsung has unveiled three new Android-powered devices, a 5.7in phablet and a new 10.1in tablet in its Note series, besides the highly-anticipated smart watch, the Galaxy Gear, at the IFA trade show in Berlin.

Though Note 3 grabbed the spotlight at the high-profile event, its elder sibling in the Galaxy Note line-up (the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition) also deserves special mention. The new Note 10.1 flaunts the same design aesthetics as that of Note 3, but integrates a WQXGA LCD display with 2560 x 1600 pixels resolution.

The Note 10.1 is powered by a 1.9GHz (for 3G and Wi-Fi version) or 2.3GHz Octa-core processor (for Wi-Fi and LTE version), which is paired with 3GB of RAM and it supports three variants of internal storage, namely 16, 32 and 64GB. It mimics the Note 3's functionality with its built-in software features such as multitasking, new actions and capabilities for S Pen stylus as well as Samsung's Knox security software.

The security software protects user data and system-sensitive apps by storing them in a secure container, which offers protection against malware and phishing attacks as well as hacking attempts on a physical device when it is stolen or lost.

"The new GALAXY Note 10.1 is the most progressive 10-inch tablet, delivering the best viewing and multitasking experiences. It is the most recent demonstration of Samsung Mobile's focus on constant product innovation to stay aligned with shifting consumer interests," said J K Shin, CEO and President of IT & Mobile Division at Samsung Electronics, in a press release.

"The GALAXY Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) unites a range of features that will consistently surprise consumers as they realise how much easier and more enjoyable it makes their everyday lives."

Price and Availability

The new Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) will be available in two colour variants, Jet Black and Classic White. It will be available globally, starting Q3 2013. However, there is still no official word on its price.
