Juventus midfielder Andrea Pirlo tells Manchester United to forget signing Paul Pogba
Juventus midfielder Andrea Pirlo has told Manchester United to forget re-signing Paul Pogba ever and asked the Premier League club to live with the fact that they let him leave the club.
The French midfielder was part of the United academy and even featured in a hand full of first-team games under former manager Sir Alex Ferguson. But he was not given a regular chance to prove himself and this prompted the player to look elsewhere for an opportunity to play regularly for the first-team.
Therefore in 2012, Pogba refused a new contract offer from the Red Devils and joined Juventus on a free transfer. The rest as they say is history. The Frenchman has gone on to flourish for both club and country and is currently one of the most sought-after midfielders in the world.
Pogba has been linked with all top clubs in Europe and recent reports suggest that United along with Real Madrid and Chelsea will battle it out for his signature, and it is expected that it will take a bid upwards of £70m to prise him away from Juventus.
However, Italy legend Pirlo has dashed United's hopes after revealing that the midfielder will not return to Old Trafford in the future.
"For whatever reasons they chose not to give him a chance - and that is a mistake they will have to live with now. I can't see that he (Pogba) will ever return to Manchester United," Pirlo said, as quoted by the Daily Mail.
"When he first joined us in training at Juventus we knew there was something about him - and in just two years he has become one of the best players in the world," he added.
The former AC Milan midfielder understands that a midfielder of his quality will have options if he chooses to leave the club, but hopes that he remains with Juventus, who are also one of the top European clubs.
"Of course he is going to have options - he knows that. You can't play at the level he is and not attract attention - but he also knows that at Juventus he is already at one of the biggest clubs in Europe."
Pirlo, who has won domestic titles with AC Milan and Juventus apart from lifting the World Cup with Italy, has revealed his conversation with Pogba about hard work and making the right decisions with regards to his future.
"I have spoken with him, and told him if he carries on working hard and makes the right decisions - there is no limit to what he can achieve," the Juventus midfielder said.
