Kell Brook pulls out of IBF world title fight with Diego Chaves after suffering rib injury
Kell Brook has pulled out his IBF welterweight showdown with Diego Chaves after suffering a rib injury in training. After successful title defences against Jo Jo Dan and Frankie Gavin, Brook was scheduled to make his third defence against Chaves in his hometown of Sheffield on 24 October.
But the fight is now on hold until later in 2015 after the 29-year-old suffered a rib injury in a sparring session. Following the announcement, Brook tweeted to his followers: "Devastated I'm out of the fight next week, wanted to fight on but can't give my belt up after working so hard to get it. Rescheduled date soon."
Promoter Eddie Hearn added: "It's always a bitter blow when an injury causes a fight to be postponed, especially so close to the event, Kell picked up a rib injury in sparring yesterday and spent most of the day at hospital yesterday. Kell was desperate to fight but it was simply impossible and we will now look to reschedule the bout for the end of the year."
Brook has been largely untested since taking the IBF belt from Shawn Porter in August 2014, having come through unscathed in title defences against Dan in March and Gavin in May.
