Liverpool Hope to Secure Deals for Sturridge and Ince in January – Report
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers wants to sign Daniel Sturridge and Thomas Ince in the January transfer window as he attempts to strengthen his attacking options.
Rodgers has been forced to hand opportunities to a number of young players, who, fortunately for the Northern Irishman have excelled, but he is still keen to add to his squad, especially when it comes to options in attack.
Liverpool currently have just one fit senior striker in Luis Suarez, while the poor form of Stewart Downing has meant that left-back Jose Enrique has been pushed into a more attacking role of late.
Blackpool winger Ince would certainly be another option in wide areas for Rodgers as he has the ability to play on either wing. The 20-year-old has excelled since leaving Liverpool as he has become a regular scorer for the Seasiders and has even forced his way into the England Under-21 squad.
Ince has been heavily linked with a move away from Bloomfield Road, with Manchester United said to be chasing his signature. However, the Daily Mail believes that Liverpool will make an offer of £6million in January and are confident that it will be enough to persuade the winger to return to Anfield.
It seems that Rodgers also wants to bring some extra firepower to his squad in the winter transfer window and will target a move for out-of-favour Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge.
The England international has been forced to spend much of his time on the bench in recent months, but will have a chance to impress a new manager after Rafael Benitez was installed as interim boss on Wednesday.
Despite his lack of form and a new managerial team, the Mail believes that Liverpool will make an offer of £12million and try to convince Sturridge to leave Stamford Bridge.
The former Manchester City striker has been heavily linked with Liverpool for much of the season as Rodgers make it clear that he would be trying to sign at least two strikers in January.
