Liverpool: Jamie Carragher wants Brendan Rodgers to sign James McCarthy from Everton
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes that Everton midfielder James McCarthy will be a perfect partner for Jordan Henderson at the heart of the Reds' midfield.
The former Reds defender has urged manager Brendan Rodgers to raid their Merseyside neighbours and bring the former Wigan player to Anfield during the summer transfer window.
McCarthy joined Everton from Wigan following the arrival of Roberto Martinez at Goodison Park and has since been present for the Toffees for the last couple of seasons.
The Republic of Ireland international, who is contracted to the club until the summer of 2018 is one of the key cogs in Martinez'a squad and it will take a considerable amount of money for them to part with their prized possession.
Carragher believes that he is the complete midfielder and is confident that he can reach Henderson's level if he adds goals to his game along with his tough tackling and ball playing ability. The former England defender has also tipped McCarthy to take over the arm band from club captain Phil Jagielka in the near future.
"I love McCarthy, I think he's a brilliant player," Carragher said, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.
"If there was one player I could take from Everton to Liverpool, it would be James McCarthy. I think he's just got to add goals. Jordan Henderson was maybe at that stage a year ago, where you really like what you see but there could be a few more goals or assists to take him up another level."
"Even though James McCarthy plays a more defensive role, he's shown he can get forward. He's a complete midfield player — he works hard, he can tackle, he can pass. I think eventually he'll be the captain there," the former Three Lions defender added.
