Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has taken a dig at Arsenal following Luis Suarez's brilliant performance against Norwich City at Anfield.

The former Swansea manager quipped that the Uruguayan may now be worth a pound more after this performance, pointing to the cheeky £40m plus £1 bid made by Arsenal last summer. Suarez scored four goals and assisted one in a 5-1 win over Norwich in a performance which epitomised his brilliance on the field. Regarded to be among the best strikers in the world, the 26-year-old was set to leave Anfield last summer with Arsenal favourites to sign him.

However, Rodgers stuck by his decision to keep him and is now being vindicated for his hard-handed treatment of the situation. Liverpool are without Daniel Sturridge for up to eight weeks and are solely dependent on Suarez for goals as they look to finish in the top four this season.

Real Madrid are believed to be interested in signing Suarez in January and reportedly have an agreement in place with his agent for a transfer next month. The Gunners are also keeping a keen eye on the situation and may make a move if the player is deemed available.

"It's a joy to watch and I still think his best years are going to be here - you can just see it's a hand-in-glove fit for him. He enjoys it here, it's the happiest I've seen him. He has such a connection with this club and Anfield, he has a massive profile here and he feels so much at home. And don't forget we create the conditions for him to produce his best," Rodgers said.

"That was sheer brilliance, I haven't seen many individual performances like that before. 'It was remarkable. I think you have to hold him up as one of the best strikers in the world - and yes, he's maybe worth £40million and two pounds now!" he concluded.
