London: Police appeal after 96-year-old woman is hit by lorry and killed near Wigmore Hall
A 96-year-old woman has died after being hit by a lorry close to the famous classical concert venue Wigmore Hall in central London. Police were called at 2.20pm on Wednesday (27 April) to reports of a collision between a large vehicle and pedestrian in Wigmore Street, just north of Oxford Street.
Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and found a female pedestrian, aged 96, injured on the ground. The pensioner was pronounced dead at the scene at 2.33pm.
Bystanders said the body was covered by a blanket and road closures were in place throughout the afternoon.
Detectives are now appealing for witnesses of the incident. The driver of the lorry stopped at the scene and there have been no arrests. The woman's identity has not been released but next of kin have been informed.
