Lyon striker Clinton Njie confirms Tottenham Hotspur move with Instagram post

Clinton Njie appears to have prematurely confirmed his move to Tottenham Hotspur, with the striker thanking current club Lyon and their supporters before declaring that he is set to embark upon a new chapter of his career at White Hart Lane.

With Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado both expected to move on during the remaining weeks of the transfer window, and no striker named on the subs bench for his side's 2015/16 opening day defeat to Manchester United, manager Mauricio Pochettino is in dire need of attacking reinforcements to ease the pressure on last season's top scorer Harry Kane.

Although the likes of Saido Berahino, Charlie Austin, Javier Hernandez and Breel Embolo have all been linked with prospective moves to Tottenham over recent weeks, Njie has emerged as the most likely signing after Lyon manager Hubert Fournier revealed on 13 August that negotiations over a transfer were "well-advanced".

The Telegraph reports that the deal is set to be worth an initial £10m ($15.6m) with a further £2m in add-ons and that the 11-cap Cameroon international was due to travel to London for a medical.

No official announcement has yet been offered by Tottenham and Pochettino was reluctant to admit that such an arrival was imminent during his weekly press conference held prior to Spurs' upcoming Premier League clash at home to Stoke City.

However, Njie looks to have left supporters in no doubt as to his future with a departing message issued via his official Instagram account.

"I want to thank all the Lyon staff, president and all the fans and my teammates," he wrote alongside a picture of himself celebrating a goal in Ligue 1. "And I also thank you for your messages of support . New chapter now. #Tottenham#Spurs"

Njie scored seven times in 31 competitive appearances for Lyon in 2014/15 after making a handful of substitute appearances during the previous campaign, a modest tally that is only just short of the measly total of eight notched in all competitions by Adebayor and Soldado between them last year.

Soldado, who cost Tottenham a club-record £26m when he moved to North London from Valencia in August 2013, is expected to return to La Liga with Villarreal shortly, while Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood does not seem to have given up hope of completing a deal for Adebayor after initial negotiations were reportedly brought to a halt by the player's reluctance to relocate permanently to the Midlands.

With his best years ahead of him and a transfer fee that falls within the £10-15m price range, Njie looks an ideal signing for Tottenham as part of their commitment to return to a more stable and responsible transfer policy under chairman Daniel Levy that follows their failed post-Gareth Bale recruitment drive.

The 21 year old would be Pochettino's fourth summer signing, joining defensive trio Kevin Wimmer, Toby Alderweireld and Kieran Trippier in North London.
