Man arrested in Australia over missing Irish woman
A man's been arrested in Australia in connection with the disappearance of an Irish woman. Jill Meagher - who's 29 and originally from Drodegha - has been missing since the early hours of Saturday, when she was out with friends.
Jill had only moved to Brunswick in Melbourne three years ago. At the beginning of the week, Australian police found her handbag near to, where she was last seen at a bar in the area on a night out with friends and colleagues from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, where she worked. She told them she was okay to do the 5 minute walk home to the flat she shared with her husband. He's not being treated as a suspect.
In a bid to step up efforts to find her, officers released CCTV footage of her last known movements. They want to speak to the man in the hoodie, seen here chatting to her briefly outside a dress shop. She then speaks to her brother on her mobile for two minutes, walks out of view of the camera and has not been seen since. A 41-year-old man has been arrested in the Coburg suburb of Melbourne and is helping police with their enquiries. There's no confirmation on whether or not the man in the hoodie is the man, who police have arrested.
