Manchester United regained top position in the Premier League, extending their lead by three points, after a narrow 1-0 victory over Fulham at Old Trafford.
The only goal of the game came in the 42nd minute, via star striker Wayne Rooney, who scored his 28th goal of the season, after picking up a loose ball in Fulham's crowded penalty box.
The Red Devils, who were clearly not at their best, had their hearts in their mouth for a moment, in the 89th minute, when Michael Carrick nearly gave away a penalty after a foolish tackle on midfielder Danny Murphy in the penalty box. The referee ruled out the penalty, despite the desperate pleas of the Cottagers.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was unimpressed by his team, who just barely managed to scrape by this one.
