Manchester United have been given a boost in their bid to sign Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric after the Croatian international reportedly admitted that he is keen on making a switch to Old Trafford. The former Tottenham talisman is a transfer target for the Premier League champions as David Moyes looks to strengthen his side's midfield.

The Mirror claims Modric is to be used as bait in Madrid's pursuit of Gareth Bale .The Welsh winger has been a priority signing for the La Liga giants. But the 27-year-old Modric wants to join the Red Devils.

The midfielder made a switch to the Bernabeu in the summer of 2012 but has failed to make much impact in his debut season. Spurs are keen to re-sign Modric either as a part of a deal involving Bale or as a straight transfer.

However, Modric is unwilling to allow Madrid to use him as a makeweight in a player plus cash deal.

Meanwhile, Moyes has long wanted to sign Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas. The Spanish champions are confident they can hold on to the former Arsenal skipper, while United still believe they can sign him before the transfer deadline.

The Premier League champions are in the market for two midfielders. The report claims United are interested in bringing Everton star Marouane Fellaini to the club, where he would rejoin his former manager.

A failure to sign Fabregas could force Moyes to move for Modric. United have not added any big names to their squad and with the transfer window closing on 2 September, Moyes is sure the English champions will bring in new faces.

"I'm confident we'll have players in. We're involved in several players we're looking at and that will continue. Will we get them before the deadline? I hope so, but we're working very hard to do so," Moyes told the club's website.
