United Yet To Bid For £15m Spanish Midfielder – Report
Manchester United are yet to put in a concrete bid for Thiago Alcantara, according to Barcelona
Barcelona claim no offers have been submitted for Thiago Alcantara amid strong suggestions the Spanish midfielder is on the brink of joining Manchester United.
Thiago's potential move to United has been widely documented in recent weeks, after a clause in the Barca man's contract was activiated dropping his release clause to £15m after he earned limited game time for the Catalans last season.
While reports have claimed that United are close to agreeing a deal with the Spain international, who starred in the Under 21 European Championship this summer, a source now insists that Barcelona have recieived no interest in their prized young star.
"We still have not received any formal offer for the player," the source told Sky Sports.
Thiago was a target for Sir Alex Ferguson before he retired in April, and is now believed to be on the wishlist of incoming manager David Moyes.
Moyes will first deal with the future of Wayne Rooney as he settles into the post at Old Trafford after officially taking over on 1 July, but he is widely touted to also be preparing for a big name player to join the squad to reassure fans following a summer of change.
Thiago's limited game time for Barcelona is believed to be part of the reason the former youth player is considering his future at the Nou Camp.
While Barcelona have insisted they hope to keep Thiago, his game time is likely to remain limited while the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets continue to be first choice in midfield.
Meanwhile, United are desperate to fill a midfield hole that has existed in their squad for a number of seasons now, with Ferguson having relied on the now-retired Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs, who this week was appointed as player-coach.
And for a cheap price of £15m, it appears it's only a matter of time before United make their interest in Thiago concrete, though Barcelona are hopeful such a scenario won't happen.
