Manchester United transfer rumour: LVG considering move for Arjen Robben as he has spat with Lewandowski
Manchester United are set to step up their interest in Dutch winger Arjen Robben, who is discontent with certain aspects at Bayern Munich. The winger returned to first team action for his country this international break, scoring twice to secure a 3-2 victory over Hungary in a friendly.
The Mirror reports that Robert Lewandowski is not happy to play alongside Robben as he deems him too selfish and would rather have Douglas Costa and Kingsley providing him with service from the wings. The Pole is the highest scorer in Europe and has been in scintillating form since the season started, something which Pep Guardiola has to keep in consideration before drafting Robben back into the team.
Robben has not reacted well to the criticism bestowed on him by Lewandowski and can consider a move away, should a lucrative offer come his way. Louis van Gaal is well acquainted with Robben, when he was with the Dutch national team and his arrival will alleviate the need for a fast and creative winger, which he stressed on in a recent press conference.
The 31-year-old is also conversant with the Premier League, having spent time with Chelsea and will be a brilliant addition to Manchester United, who are looking to challenge for the title. The Red Devils have Memphis Depay and Ashley Young to deploy on the wings, but the duo have not been in great form over the course of the campaign, which has not helped United's attack.
The 20-time English Champions have scored 17 goals thus far in the league, which is less than all other teams currently placed in the top seven. Robben can also act as a mentor for youngsters in the team, with Depay, Jesse Lingard and Adnan Januzaj all looking to forge at career at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils, who are currently fourth in the league, have been linked with a flurry of players over the past few days, with the likes of Ayoze Perez, Yacine Brahimi and Matt Ritchie among a host of players who could make their way into Old Trafford.
