Playmaker Reveals £17m Offer From United
Wesley Sneijder has admitted that he had an offer to go to Manchester United, but Inter Milan rejected the bid and eventually sold the playmaker to Galatasaray
Wesley Sneijder has revealed that Manchester United made an offer for his services but the move was blocked by his then employers Inter Milan.
Sneijder was continually linked with a move to Old Trafford over the summer of 2011, despite insistence from Sir Alex Ferguson that a deal was never on the cards.
The Holland international eventually sealed a move to Galatasaray in the 2013 January window, after a long-standing contract stand-off with Inter. And Sneijder insists that he was hardly done by at the Italian outfit, with United coming in with an offer before he was told to lower his wages.
"Manchester United had offered €20million [£17million] for me and the club rejected it," he said, according to Metro.
"I wanted to go to United but Inter didn't let me. And then they asked me to lower my wage. I didn't accept it.
"That's why they put me in the stands. I have had problems with presidents at both Inter Milan and Real Madrid."
Sneijder will now have the chance to prove himself with the Turkish big spenders, who also brought in Didier Drogba last month, in the lead up to the 2014 World Cup.
It was believed that part of the problem with United taking on Sneijder was his wage demands, believed to be in excess of £240,000 a week at Inter.
