Market round-up: Mining stocks yo-yo rising to top of FTSE 100 after difficult week
After being one of the FTSE 100's biggest fallers on 6 August, mining giant Anglo American rose to the top of the market, regaining more than its share of loses. The continuing yo-yo effect on commodities across the board shows just how uncertain their short-to-medium future is on weak demand from China. Anglo American gained +3.24% in value on 7 August after losing -2.84% of its value the day before.
Bookmaker William Hill finished the day down -6.47% after losing 8% of its value earlier in the day after it announced its pre-tax profits were down 35% in the first half of the year. The company was also hit with a higher tax bill recently.
The market trended downward, losing -0.42% to round out the day at 6,718.49p. Medical technology specialists Aortech International Plc saw the company's stock jump +37.84% on news that its full-year revenues doubled.
