Market round-up: Relief on strong US performance and Chinese recovery
The FTSE100 trended upward to close a tumultuous week Friday following strong performance in the US and a recovery on the Chinese stock market.
"Investors will relish the long weekend following a topsy-turvy week for blue chip stocks which, despite some swings and roundabouts on the way, recovered from the carnage of Black Monday," said AJ Bell Investment Director Russ Mould.
"The jitters over the slowdown in the Chinese economy have eased with the Shanghai Composite recording back-to-back increases in the past two days. But it is too early to sound an all clear as the index has fallen by more than 7% this week and Chinese authorities are investigating whether there has been malicious short-selling."
Overall the market gained 0.61% Friday to close at 6,229.57p. Inmarsat plc is a British satellite telecommunications company, offering global mobile services. It provides telephone and data services to users worldwide via portable or mobile terminals.
