Martin Demichelis betting probe: Manchester City and Argentina defender 'breached FA rules'
Manchester City and Argentina defender accused of breaching FA rules
Martin Demichelis is under investigation by the FA after allegedly breaching strict betting rules earlier this year. The Manchester City and Argentina defender is accused of committing 12 breaches of FA gambling regulations during football matches between 22 January and 28 January 2016. He has until 5pm on 5 April to respond to the charge.
Rules dictate players, managers, coaches, club medics and other staff are banned from betting on matches as they are privy to information that could enable them or others to make money.
The PFA website explains: "The reason English football has rules in this area is to ensure that in every football match both teams and individual players are playing to the best of their ability and with a clear motivation to win the game, without any conflicting objectives for either club or any player or club official."
Demichelis featured in Argentina's 2-0 victory over Bolivia in a Tuesday's 2018 FIFA World Cup South American qualifier.
