Marvel reveals teaser of The Defenders: Luke Cage showrunner compares it to Wu-Tang Clan
The new superhero group will include Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist.
Marvel impressed fans with an interesting line-up of events and announcements from the Netflix panel at the San Diego Comic Con 2016. Alongside releasing new footage for Luke Cage, the company also released the first teaser trailer for their upcoming superhero group series – The Defenders.
On the same lines as The Avengers, the film is expected to feature Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist as they attempt to defend New York City from a mystical evil.
The teaser that was released on Day 1 of the comic festival (21 July) did not give much away though and shows highlights of the four heroes before Daredevil's Stick (Scott Glenn) offers a voiceover. "You think the four of you can save New York? You can't even save yourselves," he says.
The short video ends with music from Nirvana's Come As You Are.
The Defenders is expected to release on Netflix in 2017 but before it does, expect the debut of Luke Cage (played by Mike Colter) on 30 September 2016 and Iron Fist (played by Finn Jones), early next year.
Discussing the future of Marvel's superheroes on Netflix during IGN's San Diego Comic-Con live-stream, Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker compared the super-group show to Wu-Tang Clan.
"Each individual series has its own vibe, but then you come together with The Defenders, it's the super-group," Coker said. "So if Daredevil is The Genius, and Jessica Jones is Raekwon and we're Ghostface Killah, we're all going to come together with The Defenders as Wu-Tang."
He went on to add: "The same way that you can individually have your own favourite members of Wu-Tang, but when they come together as a group, that's really the power and really the genius of how its set up ... Everybody gets their moment."
