Meghan Markle tops Tatler's 'top 10 social risers' list

The Duchess of Sussex has been ranked the top social riser of 2019 by society magazine Tatler. Meghan Markle's appearance on top of the list comes as a shock after the magazine did not list her in their "Social Power Index" list earlier in 2019.

Tatler stated that Meghan was a "tungsten toughie to drag the Royal Family into the 21st century." It claimed that even though Meghan had not risen from rags to riches, she was a beacon of change. The magazine pointed out that the Duchess had received a private school education and had a famous Emmy winning father. The list claims that she is on top of it for her successful climb up the societal "greasy pole."

Member of Parliament John Bercow is second on the list followed by Jerry Hall. Keith Tyson, Sharon White, Loretta Basey, Jamie Redknapp, Richard Caring, Teddy Williams, and Kent Adonai are the other names on the list.

The Sun pointed out that the magazine's editor, Richard Dennen, is a close friend of Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton. Dennen studied Art History at St Andrews University, which Kate and Prince William attended. This could explain the favourable ranking the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge frequently enjoy on top 10 lists.

Meghan's half-sister, Samantha Grant, claimed that Meghan had always been very ambitious and marrying into the Royal Family was one of her goals. However, judging from the other names on the list, Meghan's position on top has positive connotations. The Duchess has been given the top position for trying to balance her life as a royal with her image as a change-maker.

In recent times, both Prince Harry and Meghan have received criticism for a few of their actions. The couple's missed trip to Balmoral Castle has added to the criticism. To offset the negative press, Meghan made the choice to hire crisis public relations management team, Sunshine Sachs. Megan's appearance on top of the Tatler list might mean that Sunshine Sachs has started working on the image of the Sussexes.
