Melvin Odoom, newest Strictly Come Dancing contestant for 2016, reckons he's a sexy mover
DJ says he will miss eating cake as he joins Ed Balls and Will Young on BBC's Saturday night show.
Melvin Odoom is the latest name to be unveiled in the line-up of new contestants for Strictly Come Dancing, which will return to screens in September. His participation was confirmed on the BBC's official Twitter account for the hit show.
The Kiss FM DJ and former Xtra Factor presenter mocked his lack of dancing skills when confirming the news on his own Twitter account, posting a video clip of some enthusiastic but hapless dancing from his CBeebies days. "I am proud to announce I will be a contestant on @bbcstrictly 2016!" he tweeted, adding, "I might need a few moves though...."
But despite making fun of himself, it seems Odoom thinks he might be a threat to his fellow contestants when it comes to busting some moves to compete for the Strictly crown. "I have always thought I was a lively, cool, sexy dancer and I've always wanted to be that guy who swept someone off their feet with some cool salsa moves," he told the Mirror.
Other celebrity contestants already confirmed for the new series of the BBC's flagship entertainment show include TV presenter and self-proclaimed Strictly obsessive Laura Whitmore, singer Will Young, and former Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls. Balls has joked that he will be participating in the show as way of enjoy a "midlife crisis" in public. Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly will return to the programme as hosts.
"I'm really looking forward to learning all the new routines, working with the professional dancers, meeting the other contestants, the whole experience to be honest," continued Odoom.
The 36-year-old former team captain of BBC Three's Sweat the Small Stuff says he's taking the physical challenges of the famously gruelling show seriously: "I have been going to the gym more and running to up my fitness levels. I have cut down on certain foods and drink. I miss cake so much."
