Why Is Miley Cyrus Dropping Her Surname for the 'Love Story' Album and Her 'Peaceful Kind of Love'?

Miley Cyrus is dropping her surname for a new era– she'll be known as just 'Miley' now.

The beloved musician did not explain the change as she posted an image of what appears to be the cover for her new album. This would be her 10th studio album, following her last one in 2025. 'Something Beautiful' debuted at No. 4 in the Billboard Top 200 chart, featuring singles 'End of the World' and 'Easy Lover'.

'Something Beautiful' came a little over two years after 'Endless Summer Vacation', which Cyrus released in 2023 and debuted as a commercial success.

Working on New Music, But No Release Dates Announced Yet

Cyrus shared that she's working on new music, but hasn't elaborated on details regarding her upcoming album's release. She did share the concept behind it, though.

'This album is a love story, but love stories are never one-dimensional. They're always layered,' she said. 'There is definitely a romantic thread weaving through it because, like all my records, it's a reflection of where I am in my life. But this one feels especially meaningful because this feeling has stayed with me through multiple eras.'

'That's something I hadn't really experienced before,' Cyrus continued. 'A peaceful kind of love has become a theme across my last three records. Not just the love I share with someone else, but the love I've found for myself.'

Miley's 'Peaceful Love' and Her Engagement To Maxx Morando

Cyrus saying that her new album will be a love story led fans to speculate that she will sing about her partner, Maxx Morando. The couple got engaged last year, and she said she was totally surprised when speaking about that moment.

Cyrus has been in the public eye since she was very young, due to her role in Disney Channel's show 'Hannah Montana'. Now, she said she will approach this next chapter with care. 'The detail that I can share is that for us, our privacy and us kind of keeping it small has been something that I've been astounded that I've actually been able to have and being able to kind of have more choice'.

Besides her engagement and her new album, Cyrus appeared in a special to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her show 'Hannah Montana', where she visited parts of the set and spoke with her parents, Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus, as well as fellow Disney Channel Star Selena Gomez.

Cyrus expressed her gratitude to fans of her show in a statement. 'What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans, and I'll always be thankful for that connection,' she said. 'The fact that it still means so much to people all these years later is something I'm very proud of. This 'Hannahversary' is my way of celebrating and thanking the fans who've stood by me for 20 years.'

Cyrus recently received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The musician got choked up during her speech as she accepted the honour.

'This is where it gets me,' she said. 'To my family, my future family, parents, my mom, my siblings, my friends, my collaborators, thank you for loving and supporting not only the choices that I make, but my fears, and then facing them with me.'

While Cyrus gears up marketing for her new album, fans eagerly await news about Miley's new era.
