The dismembered body of a missing porn star has been found inside a suitcase dumped in an Italian lake.

43-year-old adult movie star Federica Giacomini was reported missing five months ago by her parents.

Her body was discovered wrapped in cellophane and duck tape in the suitcase, which was recovered by police divers in Lake Garda, after a tip off following a TV appeal.

A police spokesman said: "Following a tip off that someone had been seen dumping a large object in the lake, a search of the area was carried out and the trunk recovered.

"Inside there were several black plastic bags, wrapped with Sellotape and containing human body parts - sadly we believe it to be the body of Federica and an autopsy is being carried out."

Police have been questioning her former partner Franco Mossoni, 55, since February in connection with Giacomini's disappearance.

Mossoni's car has been seized and examined for traces of blood after it emerged the passenger seat had been removed and replaced with a deck chair.

A search of his house uncovered clubs, knives, as well as clothing and personal documents belonging to Federica .

He has been detained in a secure psychiatric unit after he burst into a hospital in Vicenza dressed as Rambo and waving a pistol.

Mossoni was recently released from jail after being convicted of the murder of a plumber in 1978 after an argument over a woman.

Two years after he was jailed, he managed to escape after warders asked him to help fix the main doors. He went on the run for 12 months before being recaptured.

Federica used the screen name Ginevra Hollander, and had appeared in 16 pornographic films in a three year career but had retired from the business in 2008.

Her films include Double Pleasure 3, Black Panther and Escort.
