Marc Marquez is the defending champion at San Marino.
Honda's Marc Marquez who is the defending champion, having won the San Marino Grand Prix last year, comes into this race as leader in the riders championship standings and is the favourite to win this year as well. Maverick Vinales who won the British Grand Prix last week will look to continue his form and cause another upset.

Rider's Championship Review
The 2016 MotoGP season has been both exciting and unpredictable with seven different riders winning the last seven races equalling the all-time record.
Honda's Marquez has established himself at the top of the riders standings with 210 points, 50 points clear of his nearest rival Valentino Rossi of Team Yamaha. Rossi's teammate, Lorenzo, rounds up the top three with 146 points.
Vinales who caused an upset to win the British Grand Prix last week, his maiden win in MotoGP, is in the fourth place with 125 points.
Out of the 12 races so far this year, nine have been won by the Yamaha duo of Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo. After last week's victory at Silverstone, the Italian rider is topping the championship leader board with 236 points.
Lorenzo is 12 points behind him in the second place. Marquez, on the other hand, is in the third place with 159 points, 77 points behind the championship leader.
