Netflix is revisiting the death of Mica Miller, a 30-year-old South Carolina pastor's wife whose 2024 death drew national attention, in a new three-part docuseries examining her troubled marriage, fears of being followed and the events leading up to her death.

Death of the Pastor's Wife, which premiered on 26 August, also explores developments that followed the case, including federal cyberstalking and false-statement charges against her husband, John-Paul Miller, who has pleaded not guilty.

Who Was Mica Miller?

Mica grew up in Wichita, Kansas, before moving with her family to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, as a teenager. There, she became deeply involved with Solid Rock Church, eventually serving as a worship leader and later working for pastor John-Paul Miller.

Mica met John-Paul when she was a teenager. He was 15 years older and was married with five children. According to Mica's family, the pair began an affair in 2015, when she was 20 and he was 35. Both later divorced their respective spouses and married each other in November 2017.

Mica went on to become Solid Rock's creative director and John-Paul's personal assistant, but her family said they had long-standing concerns about the relationship.

By late 2023, their marriage was breaking down. Mica filed for divorce in October, although the case was dismissed in February 2024. John-Paul subsequently filed for separation, which was also dismissed.

In March 2024, Mica contacted police after finding a razor blade in her tyre. She told officers her tyres had been slashed twice within a week and reported what she described as 'strange activity,' including concerns that people were following or watching her.

According to the police report, Mica told an officer she was 'afraid for her life.' Her family later alleged she had suffered abuse during the marriage. John-Paul has denied wrongdoing and previously maintained that they had a loving relationship.

What Happened to Mica Miller?

Mica filed for separation again on 15 April 2024 and moved into an apartment. John-Paul was served with the papers on 25 April. Two days later, Mica was found dead at Lumber River State Park in North Carolina.

On 27 April, Mica left her residence before purchasing a firearm and ammunition in Myrtle Beach. She then drove to the state park.

At 2:54pm, she called 911 and told an operator she intended to take her own life, asking for her location to be traced. Her body was later found by a kayaker. Authorities determined that she died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

The case generated widespread speculation about John-Paul, but investigators determined claims that he killed Mica were unfounded and confirmed he was in Charleston on the day she died.

Why the Mica Miller Case Went Viral

Interest surged after John-Paul announced Mica's death during a church service and her relatives publicly raised concerns about what she had experienced before her death.

Mica's previous social media posts discussing abuse also resurfaced, while the #JusticeForMica campaign spread across TikTok and protesters gathered outside Solid Rock Church.

Where Is John-Paul Miller Now?

In December 2025, a federal grand jury indicted John-Paul on charges of cyberstalking and making false statements to investigators.

Prosecutors allege he tracked Mica's vehicle, had people follow her, contacted her more than 50 times in one day, interfered with her finances and posted a nude image of her online without consent. The indictment also alleges he lied to investigators about damaging her tyres.

John-Paul pleaded not guilty and has not been charged in connection with Mica's death. His federal trial is currently expected during the October 2026 term.
