Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift: Kim Kardashian denies throwing 'shade' during MTV VMAs Twitter row

As two of pop's leading ladies, Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift, traded harsh words, reality star Kim Kardashian somehow found herself dragged into the middle of the Twitter row on 21 July 2015.
The spat kicked off shortly after the MTV Video Music Awards nominations were announced and Minaj, 32, discovered that the controversial video for her 2014 single Anaconda had been snubbed from the video of the year category.
Kardashian, who was in Paris at the time, began sharing photos from her shoot for Vogue Spain on social media, including one that was captioned: "Imma let you finish but..." in reference to the famous words her husband Kanye West uttered when he interrupted Swift's acceptance speech at the VMAs in 2009.
However, the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star insists that her posts had nothing to do with the pop feud, telling her Twitter followers:
Wait wait I'm in Paris it's the middle of the night & I'm posting my Vogue Spain pics not having a clue what's going on in the music world
— Kim Kardashian West (@KimKardashian) July 21, 2015
I'm not trying to shade anyone! That's not my style! I just thought that caption was perfect for that pic! Changing the caption now! #ironic

Venting her frustrations, the Moment 4 Life singer tweeted:
Lol u guys did we miss the deadline?? #MTV? https://t.co/5yUtYZZn3m
— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015
Hey guys @MTV thank you for my nominations. ??? Did Feeling Myself miss the deadline or...?
— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015
Minaj then continued her rant about the awards stereotyping the type of artist that earns nominations, which many perceived to be aimed at Shake It Off singer Swift and her Bad Blood music video.
If I was a different "kind" of artist, Anaconda would be nominated for best choreo and vid of the year as well. ???
— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015
When the "other" girls drop a video that breaks records and impacts culture they get that nomination. ??????????????????????????????????????
— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015
If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year ?????????????
— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015
It is possible that Minaj was referencing Swift, 25, breaking the record for the most-viewed video on VEVO within 24 hours for her single Bad Blood, a title previously held by Minaj for her Anaconda clip.
After fans began pitting the two ladies against each other, Minaj shut down speculation that her tweets were aimed at the Blank Space singer, later adding:
Huh? U must not be reading my tweets. Didn't say a word about u. I love u just as much. But u should speak on this. @taylorswift13
— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015
@taylorswift13 I'm still confused as to why u just tweeted me when I made it abundantly clear... pic.twitter.com/A5kJyi6fQC

Nothing I said had to do with Taylor. So what jabs? White media and their tactics. So sad. That's what they want. https://t.co/AfcwoyDvpg
— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015
Ryan posted a headline of Taylor saying she loves & supports me. But not me saying the same to her. Lol. Their headline says I took a "jab"?
— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015
I'm so glad u guys get to see how this stuff works. Taylor took her music off spotify and was applauded. We launched Tidal & were dragged.

Former country singer Swift responded to Minaj's comments with her own tweets, even inviting her to join her on stage at the awards ceremony if she wins any of her nine nominations.
@NICKIMINAJ I've done nothing but love & support you. It's unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot..
— Taylor Swift (@taylorswift13) July 21, 2015
@NICKIMINAJ If I win, please come up with me!! You're invited to any stage I'm ever on.

The 2015 MTV VMAs will take place on 30 August at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.
