Nokia 808 PureView vs Samsung Galaxy S2: Monster Camera to Down Galaxy?
Nokia's 808 PureView, along with its monstrous 41 megapixel camera, was unveiled on the opening day of the recently concluded 2012 Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona.
The smartphone, reportedly the N8's successor, is expected to hit European markets sometime in May. Moreover, the phone, so the company claims, is the first to feature Nokia Pure View imaging technology, by combining a high resolution sensor, Carl Zeiss optics and Nokia-developed algorthims. The Finnish manufacturers, for their troubles, were awarded Best New Mobile Handset, Device or Tablet at the MWC.
Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S2, launched in April last year, has been one of the most popular smartphones in the world. In fact, according to a report on Venture Beat, the company recently announced it has sold 20 million units since it was launched.
The smartphone emerged as the Best Mobile Phone at the AsiaOne people Choice Awards, according to a post on AsiaOne. Moreover, the South-Korean tech giant won "Best Smartphone" for their product, at the GSM Association's Global Mobile Awards for 2012.
Display: The Nokia 808 PureView features a 4-inch AMOLED capacitive touch-screen with 16m colors. The display has a resolution of 640x360 pixels and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.
The Galaxy S2 features a 4.27-inch Super AMOLED Plus capacitive touch-screen also with 16m colors but a resolution of 800x480 pixels.
Size: The dimension of Nokia 808 PureView is 123.9x60.2x13.9mm. The smartphone weighs 169g. On the other hand the Galaxy S2 has a dimension of 125.3x66.1x8.49mm and weighs 116g.
Operating system: The PureView runs on the Symbian Belle OS, whereas the Galaxy S2 runs on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).
Processor: The Nokia 808 PureView smartphone is powered by a single-core 1.3GHz processor. It runs on 512MB RAM.
The Galaxy S2 is powered by 1.2 GHz dual-core Arm Cortex A9 processorm, with 1GB of RAM.
Camera: The Nokia 808 PureView features a 41 megapixel camera with Nokia PureView Pro imaging technology with Carl Zeiss optics. The camera also features autofocus and Xenon flash. The Galaxy S2 has an 8 megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2 megapixel front-facing camera with LED flash and autofocus.
Connectivity: The Nokia 808 PureView offers a micro USB connector, a 3.5 mm AV connector, a 2.0 mm Charger connector and a HDMI port. It also supports Bluetooth version 3.0 and WLAN IEEE 802.1b/g/n.
The Galaxy S2 can connect through GPRS, EDGE, 3G and also supports Bluetooth version 3.0, Wi-Fi and micro USB.
Storage: The PureView has a built-in memory of 16GB, which can be expanded to 48GB, using a micro-SD card. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S2 offers the same 16GB of storage space (expandable to 32GB using a micro-SD card).
Battery: The PureView has a standard 1400mAh battery, while the Galaxy S2 has a 1650 mAh battery.
