Overview
Djokovic will start the Monte-Carlo Masters from the second round after being one of the star players to take part in the ATP Masters event. The Serbian tennis star was handed a bye and will face Montanes in his first match of the tournament.
The 26-year-old is the defending champion as he ended World No 1 Rafael Nadal's reign as holder of the Monte-Carlo Masters title for eight long years. The Spaniard will take part in this year's event and will be looking to regain his dominance in the tournament.
Djokovic will be looking for a win against his Spanish opponent in order to start this edition's ATP event on a winning note. He would be keen on retaining the title for yet another year.
Meanwhile, Montanes made it to the second round of the tournament after registering a victory over Benoit Paire. The 33-year-old defeated the Frenchman in a three-set tie. Montanes won the match 7-4, 4-6, 6-2.

Djokovic has a 5-0 comfortable lead over Montanes in the overall meetings. The pair have met in one grand slam events, with the Serbian winning that without any trouble. Djokovic holds a 5-0 lead over Montanes in the last five previous meetings between the pair.
