OS X 10.9 Mavericks: Tips to Speed up Download
OS X 10.9 Mavericks now available for free
Apple has unveiled the latest iteration of the desktop operating system, OS X 10.9 Mavericks. Integrating more than 200 new features, the OS X Mavericks brings iBook and Maps to the Mac, a new version of Safari, improved multi-display support, new Finder Tabs and Tags with new core technologies for power efficiency and performance.
The OS X 10.9 Mavericks is now available for free from the Mac App Store. Any Mac capable of running OS X Mountain Lion can also run Mavericks. Users can upgrade to Mavericks for free directly from OS X Snow Leopard, Lion or Mountain Lion.
It now appears that for some people the OS X Mavericks download was very fast whereas for others it seemed to be a very slow process.
Below are a few tips helping users to speed up the download and restart it if OS X Mavericks does not download. However, depending on the system configuration and the internet connection, the download speeds vary. Even those who are having fastest internet connections are facing issue with the download as well as download speeds.
Connect using Ethernet
In case Thunderbolt ethernet adapter is available, or the Mac has a built-in ethernet port, users are advised to directly connect to the router or switch with a cable. There is less chances of interference and the download should be quicker in most situations.
Pause and restart download
Mac users can view the download progress of Mavericks in the App Store (by clicking on Purchases). Just next to the download bar, there is a button to pause the download. Click Pause and wait for about 30 seconds to one minute. Then click Resume to continue the download.
Data transfer, usually, from a massive data center like Akamai does not come from one location. If one switch or even data node is blogged down, pausing the download enable the computer to disconnect from that node and reconnect to another. And that node might be faster than the previous one and should improve the download speeds. It should be noted that this could work in reverse and therefore, result might vary.
Wait until later
It is advised to wait until later in the evening, which is expected to improve download speeds. Besides, computer professionals suggest waiting until there have been a few patches issued for an operating system before updating. This ensures the best application compatibility.
