Pamela Anderson: Baywatch movie 'should remain in the 90s' despite potential David Hasselhoff casting
It was the show that catapulted Pamela Anderson to fame and made red swimsuits sexy, but the former TV lifeguard isn't keen on a reboot. The 48-year-old actress has spoken out against the upcoming movie starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron after being asked to reprise her role as CJ Parker.
The Baywatch film, which has been in the pipeline since 2004, will centre around Johnson's character, a by-the-book lifeguard, forced to team up with a young hothead with a blatant disregard for authority in order to save their local beach from environmental destruction brought about by a ruthless oil tycoon. The film will also be produced by Beau Flynn (San Andreas) and Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters).
According to TMZ, the blonde bombshell scoffed the new project saying that the show needs to remain in the past, and most importantly, on the small screen.
"No one appreciates the remakes," Anderson said. She also went on to describe making the show as the best time of her life and that the 1990s was a "simpler, sweeter time" adding that it won't work on the big screen in 2015.
Despite not getting Anderson's seal of approval, producers are still going full steam ahead with the remake, with David Hasselhoff , who played Mitch Buchannon in the original, tipped to appear in some capacity. Filming will start in early 2016, with a summertime release expected the following year.
Fans of bouncy slow-motion running sequences shouldn't fret though. According to Johnson, producers have been inundated with requests from budding actresses desperate to fill Anderson's shoes.
"Who's going to play CJ? I can't tell you the amount of calls we've been getting from the most gorgeous actresses and models in the world, from their agents and managers," he said at the D23 convention. "They all want to be CJ!"
